Open Stages is Brooklyn Conservatory of Music’s annual free, outdoor musical event featuring dozens of artists. For the second year in a row, The Neighborhood will be curating a stage of Jewish music for Open Stages. This year, our stage will highlight music that reinterprets and remixes texts from the Hebrew Bible, featuring artists Lainie Fefferman and Yula Beeri.
Lainie Fefferman’s ensemble will present work from Here I Am–a song cycle that brings a fresh perspective to ancient sacred literature through original and heart-provoking musical composition. For this performance, Here I Am will be performed by Kamilla Arku (keyboard), Lainie Fefferman (vocals, percussion), Sybil’s Chloe Holgate and Lily Holgate (vocals, violin, percussion), and James Moore (electric guitar).
Yula Beeri's project, Song of Songs Update 0.2, sounds like a fascinating blend of ancient inspiration and modern creativity. It reimagines the lyrical beauty of the Song of Songs through a mix of electronic elements, live vocals, and instruments, creating a unique and immersive experience. Beeri, known for her work with Nanuchka, World Inferno, and Y&I Indiga (just to name a few), brings her signature style to this project, offering a fresh take on the timeless themes of love and expression.
