Into the Water: A Meditation and Tashlich Ceremony

Join The Neighborhood for a High Holiday ritual of reflection, mindfulness, and song with meditation teacher Alison Laichter and musician Martine Duffy.

Tashlich is a centuries-old practice in which communities gather by a flowing body of water to symbolically release the burdens, regrets, and missteps of the past year. The word “tashlich” means “casting away," a spiritual cleansing and a chance to begin again.

The tradition of Tashlich during the High Holidays invites us to reflect deeply on the past year and notice if we've been living lives that embody our values, decide what we want or need to let go of to make space for the new, and plant ourselves on the path to truly become who we want to be.

This free, outdoor gathering will take place along the Williamsburg Waterfront on Tuesday, September 23, where Alison will guide us through a contemplative journey on the themes of the Jewish new year and the ancient ritual of tashlich. Musician Martine Duffy will share soulful melodies and songs, leading us to the water for a creative and meaningful ceremony.

Into the Water invites you to slow down and reflect during this special season. No need to be an expert, just bring yourself, something to sit on, and a little curiosity. Come as you are, and let the water carry away whatever’s weighing you down. Who knows? It might just make room for something wonderful or at least help your soul catch its breath.

Exact location for this event will be shared with those who RSVP a week before the event.
