New Year in The Neighborhood is a joyful Rosh Hashanah gathering for families with kids, where we will celebrate the new year with a service, hands-on activities, and a community meal.
Join The Neighborhood, B’nai Brooklyn, and Fig Tree at The Moxy Hotel in Williamsburg, alongside meditation teacher Alison Laichter for a morning experience created especially to be experienced by families together. This program invites people of all ages to renew and reflect, while setting intentions for a year of sweetness ahead. Expect kid-friendly meditation, music, storytelling, and spiritual play. Together, we'll dream toward a new year of peace, love, silliness, connection, and delight.
Come as you are, whether curious, sleepy, sparkly, or unsure, and prepare to greet 5786 with open hearts and bright hopes. This event is designed to be experienced by families together, with an understanding that kiddos of different ages will have different ways of participating. Our singing, storytelling, crafts, and mindfulness activities will have a range of audiences in mind, but the littlest ones (0-4) may need a bit of extra help from their grown-ups to stay engaged. Our Rosh Hashanah service will have us stationary (with some interludes of movement!) for around 45 minutes. Alongside the service, we will have a PJ Library book corner for quiet reading and sensory play for those who need. There will then be a 45-minute period of hands-on activities, followed by our community lunch.
No Hebrew or meditation experience is necessary, just a willingness to be present and playful. Tickets include a meal with vegan and gluten-free options available (vegetarian, not kosher certified).
If price is a barrier to your family’s participation in this event, please email info@theneighborhoodbk.org to request an accommodation.
