Orna and Ella: Film Screening and Tasting

Join The Neighborhood and Ceres Food X Film at Brooklyn Art Haus for a special screening of Orna and Ella–a cinematic tribute to the beloved Tel Aviv Restaurant of the same name. After the film, stick around for a tasting of light bites from the Orna and Ella cookbook by Naama Tamir of Lighthouse BK.

Together we’ll enjoy a movie and a nosh, celebrating the flavors of Tel Aviv through the story of an iconic restaurant and the two women who made it a cultural hotspot.

Open on Tel Aviv’s Shenkin Street between 1992 and 2018, Orna and Ella was much more than a restaurant. It was a pioneering woman-owned neighborhood institution, where everything, from bread to pasta to ice cream, was made in-house. The small but bustling location was a cherished third space for artists, bohemians, and generations of families who returned year after year for the nourishing home-cooked cuisine and the warm hospitality.

After 26 years in business, chefs and owners Orna Agmon and Ella Shine closed the restaurant; in the final weeks before closing, filmmaker Tomer Heymann (a veteran server from the restaurant’s early years) documented the last days in the Orna and Ella kitchen. The resulting film offers an intimate portrait of two lifelong friends and business partners as they navigate the complexities of their relationship, and the bittersweet decision to close the restaurant that had been at the center of their lives for so long.

Your ticket includes admission to the film’s screening and tastes after the film; drinks will be available for purchase from the Brooklyn Art Haus bar.
