Mystical Sukkot Havdalah Ceremony

Join us for a mystical ceremony of chant, ritual, and dance in the Sukkah, connecting to the ancestors, and calling in the energies of connection, abundance, and joy. This gathering will be facilitated by R' Jericho Vincent with Sacred Musician Carla Friend, Rabbi Arielle Krule, and DJ Julia Edelman, and will take place in an art installation Sukkah.

This evening will begin with the ritual of Havdalah and then move into a chant practice using both our words and our bodies. Eventually, our dance chant will morph into an Ecstatic Dance-style DJ set, opening up the Sukkah for collective movement.

This event will take place as part of Sukkot in The Neighborhood – a festival of Jewish arts, culture, and spirituality taking place in an art installation Sukkah in Brooklyn. Check out the full line-up of events here.

Rav Jericho Vincent

Rav Jericho Vincent is the founding rabbi of Temple of the Stranger, a growing Ivri community in Brooklyn, New York. They are a Wexner Fellow, a member of the Schusterman ROI Community, and a recent fellow at Atra: The Center for Rabbinic Innovation, and they serve as an advisor to both Beit Kohenet and The Shalom Center. Rav Jericho's work has been recognized by the Forward 50. Raised in a rabbinic ultra-Orthodox family, Rav Jericho is a first-generation college graduate. They hold a Master’s in Public Policy from Harvard University, where they were a Pforzheimer Fellow. They received rabbinic ordination from the Aleph Ordination Program in the lineage of Reb Zalman Schachter-Shalomi. They teach Torah on Instagram @thealef.

DJ Maracuya

DJ Maracuya (Julia Edelman) is a Jewish French-American DJ based in New York. Her ecstatic dances are an opportunity to transform through movement, and get in touch with your most authentic, liberated self. She is also an experienced writing workshop facilitator and published author. Within the Jewish community, she has led Shabbat Ecstatic Dances in Brooklyn, and writing workshops at the Jewish Braille Institute. She first started DJing in Bali, and has led dances in Indonesia, Thailand, Italy, Florida and New York.

Carla Friend

Carla Friend holds a Masters Degree in Music Education from NYU and a Bachelors Degree in Music Education from Ithaca College. She discovered her Jewish identity through music and started Tkiya to help others do the same. Carla is a 2018 recipient of the Young Pioneers Award from the Jewish Education Project , a 2019 recipient of 36 Under 36 from the Jewish Week, was in UpStart Venture Accelerator’s Cohort 11, is on the board of JPro New York, and was just accepted to the newest cohort of the Institute for Executive Jewish Leadership. She is also a JKids Radio artist and the host of a new show on JKids Radio called Tkiya Town. Check out Carla’s new album of family-friendly Jewish music, Challalalalah!
